Mark 8&9 Reading
- Once it was clear to the disciples that Jesus was the Christ [Mk 8:29], He began to reveal more to them
- The same applies to us today—the more we know about God, the more He’ll reveal to us
- “Come after me” is “be where I am”. It’s different from “follow me” [Mk 8:34].
- “Follow me” is to follow His example—to do as He did on earth.
- When we do this, heaven will bring us to where He is, i.e., heaven
- When we “follow Him”, we will be with Him where He is.
- To come after Him (to be where He is), we must follow Him.
- To “lose one’s life” doesn’t necessarily mean to die physically [Mk 8:35]. It could mean to lose dreams or ambitions in pursuit of Christ.
- Everyone who will follow Christ must sacrifice something—must lose his life Christ.
- When we follow, we must not grumble. Grumbling was one of the offences of Israel in the wilderness [1Co 10:10].
- If any is sad or has trouble, he should pray [Jas 5:13]
- The Disciples asked Jesus why the Scribes say, “Elijah must come first”, because they had just seen Elijah on the mount of transfiguration [Mk 9:2-10].
